S. Dianne Russell, 63
Dianne Russell, 63, was taken from this life on November 25, 2017. At the moment of her transition from this world, she was surrounded by peace and love with her family by her side, thus ending over four years of battling ovarian cancer.
Dianne was born April 28, 1954 in West Palm Beach, Florida, the daughter of Bill and Nita Rowe. She grew up various places until her father retired from the military and settled in Valdosta, Georgia.
Dianne was married to Robert Russell on April 19, 1986. This began a life of love and travel. Together, with their daughters, Robin and Allison, they experienced the world as Rob was stationed in various locations during his military career. She enjoyed traveling and making memories with her family and friends. She enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the Civil Service, eventually retiring from the CID in Quantico, Virginia.
Dianne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her giving and bountiful spirit was experienced by all who knew her. She lived for her family and was the rock on which the family foundation stood. She was actively involved in all of her grandchildren’s lives and loved to help wherever she could. She was known to do anything from baking goodies to sell at band concerts to donating old homegoods to create a set for a play.
Dianne lived her life to help others. She volunteered for the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition to spread awareness about ovarian cancer early detection and treatment. She also gave of her time to the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree and Wreaths Across America at Arlington National Cemetery to help bring comfort and peace to others. Her greatest accomplishment in life can be seen through those she has left behind. May her love and gracious spirit live on through all of us; may her persevering nature be a pattern for us to follow.
Dianne is preceded in death by her parents and she is survived by her loving husband, Rob, her daughters Robin and Allison, their husbands, Michael and Michael, as well four grandchildren: Emma, Hayden, Nathan, and Eliza.
There is to be a commemoration at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 1st at the Miller Funeral Home in Woodbridge, Virginia. It was Dianne’s fervent wish that this not be a funeral or memorial service. Rather, it is to be a celebration of her life for her family and friends to enjoy. In addition to a brief, planned program, everyone will be offered an opportunity to speak about Dianne and what she meant to them.
