Eddie L. Richardson, 81
Eddie Lee Richardson, 81, passed away, Friday, September 29, 2017 at his residence in Dumfries, VA.
He leaves his wife of 60 years Emma Richardson; his sister Emma Jean Harris and he is proceeded in death by his sister Barbara Louis Richardson. He also leaves his son Kenneth Richardson and daughter in law Tracey Richardson, (Proceeding in death) his daughter Sheron Richardson. Greatly missed by his grandchildren: Norman Richardson, Matt Wagener, spouse Regina Wagener, Ashley Wagener, Starr Canada, spouse Dwayne Canada. Great grandchildren Arianna, Kylan, Reegan. As well as many other friends and family.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of late Myron and Frankie Richardson, he was a longtime resident of Leeds, AL. Eddie attended Moton High School where he played in the band and sang in the choir.
In his early years, Eddie loved to sing, and follow the Birmingham Barons (baseball). After graduating high school in 1954, he joined the Army in Sept 1959 where he made a career with serving duties in North Korea, Vietnam, stateside and in Germany. While in the Army, Eddie received the following metals: National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with 1 OLC, Vietnam Service Metal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm, Army Service Ribbon, (2) Overseas Service Ribbons, Army Achievement Medal, (8) Good Conduct Medals, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, and the Meritorious Service Medal. Upon serving 27 years in the Army, he retired in 1986 as a Master Sergeant.
After retiring from the Army, he had the opportunity to join the U.S. Postal Service in 1987 and retired from there in 2005.
Mr. Richardson had a passion for music, he loved to sing and play the drums. For years, he was a part of a local singing group in Alabama known as Golden Star of Bessemer. Eddie loved his family dearly! He also loved his sweets and was a huge fan of the Washington Redskins. Eddie has touched the hearts of many and will be missed dearly.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 10, 2017 from 1:00-2:00PM with a service at 2:00PM at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192. Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
