Gerald A. Walker, 82
Gerald Andrew Walker, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, 23, 2018, at Sentara Hospital in Woodbridge, VA surrounded by loving family.
Born in Philadephia, PA on August 5, 1935 to the late Azalia Wayman Pipes and Andrew Henry Walker, and raised in Topeka, KA, his father's home town. He attended The University of Kansas for 1.5 years before having to leave school for economic reasons. Ater attending the University of Kansas for 1.5 years, then he moved to Columbus, OH and worked at The Ohio State University Hospital for 3 years prior to joining the Army, on May 1, 1958. He spent 20 years in the Army as a X-Ray Technician, stationed at a number of bases throughout the world including Asmara, Ethiopia where he met and married his wife Letteberhan. He retired on June 1, 1978 then went on to work for Fairfax Hospital for an additional 22 years. After many years of taking one to two classes at a time, he completed his college education in 1986 by earning a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from George Mason University.
Gerald was a member of Fort Belvoir Chapel where he was a sang in the Choir for many years. He was a quiet, gentle man who loved listening to classical music, reading his daily paper, watching war documentaries and sports programming. He loved his country and was very proud of his service in the Army. He also enjoyed traveling domestically and abroad, site seeing, and automobiles. He had a dry sense of humor and enjoyed telling add lib jokes for fun. He enjoyed weddings and holiday dinners, helping others, and meeting new people.
Gerald was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be missed by his devoted wife of 54 years, Letteberhan; sons, Phillip (Yolaanda), Steven, daugher, Angela (Kenneth); 5 grandchildren, Alante, Tyler, Bradley, Gabrielle, and Bethany; sisters Carole and Linda; his many in-laws, extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother Ronald.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at 10:00 am, at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA, with a service to follow at 11:00 am. A grave side service will take place at 1:00 pm, at Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Rd.,Triangle, VA, with a reception to follow 2:00 pm, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 18410 Chapel St., Triangle, VA.
