James M. Donovan, Jr., 95
James Mayfield Donovan, Jr., 95, passed away at his home in Woodbridge, Virginia on Tuesday, December 4, 2018.
He was born in Georgetown, Kentucky in 1923. He served in the USAAF from 1943-46 and graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1948. He worked as a writer and public relations executive for the Blood Horse Magazine, the Kentucky Fire Safety Commission, and the Interpublic Group of Companies, New York. He was the Associate Director of Communications for the American Textile Manufacturer’s Institute in Washington, DC at the time of his retirement in 1986. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Rebecca Colvin and Irene Anderson.
He is survived by his wife Kathrine Greenwood Donovan, his daughter and her husband Elizabeth and Gregory Long, grandchildren Kaitlynn and Lawson, brother William Donovan and many nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held from 2:00 – 3:30 on December 16, 2018 at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Boulevard in Woodbridge, Virginia. A reception for friends and family will be held at his home immediately following the Visitation. A funeral and burial will be held in Georgetown, Kentucky at a later date.
