Kenneth L. Moyer, Sr., 79
Kenneth Leroy Moyer, Sr., 79, of Viewtown, VA, passed away on March 10, 2017 at Georgetown University Hospital.
Kennie was born in Butler County, PA on September 29, 1937. He graduated from Victory Joint High School in 1955. After graduation, he enlisted in the Air Force for 4 years in the 764th Radar Squadron. He was then employed by General Electric for 33 years where he traveled extensively throughout the US, including Shemya, Alaska, and abroad. Settling down, making Virginia his home, he ended his career with Lockheed Martin. He was proud to serve his country while in the Air Force and as a radar technician, with HMED systems, in the aerospace division, and finally with computer systems all while employed by GE and Lockheed.
Kennie had many interests. He was able to repair anything from cars to computers. He was always there to help friends and neighbors when in need. He began skydiving at age 50. He looked forward to his vacations at the TX Ranch in Montana, a working cattle ranch. He had a great interest in politics and was very patriotic. He also was very fond of his beloved dog, Spur.
Kennie retired in 1999 and a few years later moved from Dale City, VA to Viewtown, VA. In his retirement, he continued his interest in computers, and enjoyed working on his small farm. He took up beekeeping where he was active with the local NPBA Bee Club, mentoring new beekeepers. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.
Kennie was married to Stefanie (Stella Cervenec) Moyer on his birthday, September 29, 1959 in Harrisburg, PA for 57 years.
Kennie is survived by his 3 children, Denise R. Slattery (Eddie VonSchondorf), Kenneth L. Moyer, Jr. (Margaret Smith) and Stephanie D. Hiner (Steve). His grandchildren are Rene' Slattery, Stef Moyer, Sam von Beulwitz , Anna and Stephen Hiner. He is also survived by his adopted daughter, Carrie Howard (John) and granddaughter Lily.
Kennie is preceded in death by his parents, Elzie and Lois (Wolford) Moyer, as well as his brothers, Tommy and Gary and sister, Elizabeth.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 17, 2017 from 10AM-12PM with a service at 12PM at Miller Funeral Home, 3200 Golansky Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22192. Interment will follow at Quantico National Cemetery.
