Lee M. Lawrence, 77

Lee McGill Lawrence (age 77) passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 13th after a courageous battle with cancer.  She is survived by her husband Robert (Bob) Lawrence, two daughters Caryll (Oakton, VA) and Stacy (Woodbridge, VA), siblings Sue Taylor (Miami, FL), Robert McGill (Bethesda, MD) and Robert Foster (Los Angeles, CA), plus lots of extended family including many cousins who she loved and adored.


Lee was born in Los Angeles, CA on November 29, 1940 to Helen Ann Lee and Thom Moran McGill.  As a baby they moved to Miami, Florida where she lived until moving to Washington, DC in 1959 to work for the Department of the Navy (NAVDAC). She retired from the Department of Defense (DFAS) in 1997 as Senior Management Analyst.  After a short retirement she returned to work at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (formerly Potomac Hospital) and retired in 2016.


Lee was a lifelong volunteer and believed in giving back to her community.  She volunteered at Columbia Hospital for Women, and the Alexandria Jaycee Wives where she helped organize the first Special Olympics in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She was President of the Dumfries/Triangle Jaycee Wives and later became the first elected President of the Virginia Jaycee Women.  She went on to become Secretary to the US Jaycee Women organization and was awarded the Virginia Jaycee Life Member. Lee was a US JCI Senator and US Jaycee Women Congresswoman. She was a founding member and volunteer of the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership of Virginia (HOBY) and remained active for many years. She also served 3 terms as President of the Auxiliary at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (formerly Potomac Hospital). Lee was also very involved in many capacities at church both at First United Presbyterian Church of Dale City and Westminster Presbyterian Church in Alexandria.  She also sang with the Woodbridge Community Choir for many years including serving as a past President.


A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 23 at 11:00am at First United Presbyterian Church of Dale City, 14391 Minnieville Road, Woodbridge, VA.  A reception will be held immediately following at The Sutton Club Room, 2300 Vantage Drive, Woodbridge, VA. A private burial is planned at Quantico National Cemetery.

The family asks that donations be made in her memory to either First United Presbyterian Church of Dale City (Music program), or Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (Auxiliary).
