Raymond R. Brown, 69
Raymond Robert Brown, 69, passed away at home on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his father, Preston P. Brown and mother, Martha S. Brown. He was originally from Toledo Ohio but spent his adult life in the Washington DC area. He served a combined 40 years of service in the United States Navy and with The Department of Veterans Affairs. He was employed until his passing because he was passionate about his work. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend. He leaves his wife Joanne of 43 years of marriage, his three children Shaun (Amanda), Rian, and Caitlin, along with four grandchildren Jamison, Madison, Bryson, and Ezra.
Ray was a member of Old Bridge United Methodist Church where he served as a volunteer-The Blood Drive Coordinator. He became interested about this service when he could no longer be a blood donor due to his Multiple Myeloma diagnosis. He was an avid history buff and trivia wiz. He enjoyed bird watching, spending time at the beach, cheering on his favorite sports teams and watching wrestling but his favorite past time was spending time with his family and friends.
He spent many hours coaching his kid’s soccer teams, participating in scouting events, and his favorite…looking over the lip of the pool deck as head timer for the Ridgewood Barracudas, Woodbridge Senior High School, and Occoquan Swim Teams.
He will be missed by all of the lives that he touched.
At a later date, Ray will be laid to rest at a graveside service at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina which will be followed by a family reunion at his “happy place”…Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF), Children’s Hospital-Genetics Department in Washington, D.C., or Georgetown Transplant Center in Washington, D.C. in his memory.
