Richard K. Farwell, 82
Richard Kenneth (Dick) Farwell was born in Detroit Michigan. After High School, Dick joined the US Army and served for over 27 years. He initially served as a Flight Operations Coordinator and, subsequently, as Chaplains’ Administrative NCO. His duty assignments included various Army installations within the United States, including Ft. Rucker, Alabama during the Vietnam War, Ft. Benning Georgia and Ft. Riley, Kansas, as well as overseas assignments in Korea and Germany. Dick attained the rank of Sergeant First Class (SFC) and retired in 1981, as the NCOIC of the Fort Belvoir Chaplain’s Assistant’s. Dick is a recipient of the National Defense Service Metal (1OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1OLC), Armed Forces Expeditionary Metal, and Good Conduct metal (7 awards). Upon his retirement, Dick was a Security Officer for various government agencies.
Dick was a long-time, active member of the Fort Belvoir Catholic Community, and the Knights of Columbus as a member of Fort Belvoir Council No. 11170, and Assembly No. 2204 in Alexandria. As a former Chaplain’s Administrative NCOIC, Sir Knight Dick Farwell supported the Chapel by assisting with preparation for Mass and serving as a Lector, Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EHMC) and Usher. More importantly, he was a mentor to many Chaplain Assistant’s that were assigned to Fort Belvoir over the past decade or more. He was also actively participated in Council events and served in various leadership positions with the Assembly and was a member of the Color Corps.
Dick is survived by his wife, Chong, of 41 years, his sons, Alan Farwell and Kenneth Farwell, daughter, Jean Horstman, and sister, Linda Amarosa. He has three grandchildren: Brandon Horstman, Eva Proskafalas and Cathy Steffen.

Funeral Mass: Woodlawn Chapel, 8820 Wright Road (#1801), Ft Belvoir, VA 22060 on Thursday, August 31 at 10:00 a.m.
Interment: – Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, VA 22172 on Thursday August 31 at 12:00 (noon)
There will be a reception/lunch immediate following the interment ceremony at the Woodlawn Chapel.
